Data and Information

Data:-

         A data is collect from different sources and can be used for different purpose. Data is an unprocessed form of facts and figures without any interpretation to get their exact meaning. Data is not in a meaningful form and huge in its volume and almost more difficult to reproduce. A data can be represented in a form which is suitable for interpretation or processed by electronic machine. Data is the input for computer. Data is not used in decision making. Data is an independent entity.        

Example of data:-

v  The Government during census collect a data from all citizen and government store these information permanently and for different purpose at different time.

v  John, smith, 4568 circle, lake, ut, 84083, 9804432811.

A data is represented with the help of a characters just like alphabets (A-Z, a-z) and digits (0-9), or special characters (+, _, *, /, <, >, = etc.).

Types of data:-

                         Data may be of the following types:

1.    Numeric data:

A numeric data consist of numeric digit (0-9) like 38,289 or -2.

A numeric data may either positive or negative.

2.    Alphabetic data:

Alphabetic data consist of alphabet A to Z or a to z and blank space e.g.

“Memory”, “Islam” etc.

3.    Alphanumeric data:

Alphanumeric data consist of numeric data, alphabet and all special characters like %, @ etc. for example “99%”, “$489” and “H#13”.

4.    Image data:

This type of data include of a graphs, a picture and a drawing.

5.    Audio data:

An audio data include music, speech and any type of a sound.

6.    Video data:

A video is a full motion images played at a high speed.

  Information:-

An organized and processed form of a data is called information. Information is a more meaningful then data. Information is used for a making decision. Information depends on data it is not an independent entity. Information is easier to reproduce if lost. Information must qualify certain characteristics to make a decision meaningful. These characteristics are information should be accurate, complete and available when required. Information is in a format which is easily understood by human. Information is the output of computer.

    Example of information:-

v   The government stored a data during census is used to generate a different type of an information. For example the government can use it to find a total number of literacy rates in the country etc. The government can used this data to take an important decision to improve a literacy rate. This information can be obtained by processing a stored data in the database.
